Winston Wächter Fine Art is pleased to present Arrangements, our fifth solo exhibition with artist Betsy Eby. Northwest artist Betsy Eby is known for her elegant and lyrical encaustic paintings. Eby recognizes specific personal life experiences, such as growing up surrounded by the dewy forests of the Oregon coast and studying classical piano, as continuing influences in shaping her artistic practice today. Eby draws connections between the natural rhythms and balance in nature, classical music compositions, and her artistic process of making these elements visual through painting.
As the title suggests, Eby’s newest body of work, Arrangements, focuses on the musical aspects within her work. Each painting serves as a visual documentation of specific classical music pieces, fusing her musical experience with a visual form. The organic brushwork in her paintings not only reference vital elements of the Northwest landscape, but also move across the canvas like the rise and fall of a musical score atop a parchment colored background.
The titles of each painting are also a significant component, inviting viewers to consider the intertwined relationship between the visual and auditory senses. The titles serve as a key while viewers take in each painting experiencing intuitively, emotionally and thoughtfully the infusion of visual and musical content in every piece.
