Winston Wächter Fine Art is pleased to present a summer show featuring the work of three exciting artists. They work with a variety of materials: encaustic, enamel on canvas, and glass.
Leah Durner’s poured enamel compositions combine gestural abstraction and saturated color. She draws from a variety of art historical references, including Wassily Kandinsky, Jackson Pollack and Lynda Benglis. The sources for her dynamic colors stem from her interest in fashion and textiles. As Durner describes, “My use of intense and unusual color is at once beautiful, off-key and borderline psychedelic. Leah Durner's bio Ruth Hiller explains, “My current body of work reflects my fascination with the parallels between microscopic and macroscopic elements. As I ponder the cosmos or explore deep within a living organism, I find the visual similarities astounding”. Her encaustic panels create a 3-dimensional surface that is enhanced by the use of fluorescent pigment. The contrast of smooth surface plane and vibrant color defines the amazing depth of her work. Ruth Hiller's bio Using glass and mixed media, Erich Woll creates sculptures that provide a humorous dialog. Woll explains, “I draw much of my inspiration from words and their manifestations in the physical world. I love to explore phrases for their subtle undercurrents of meaning, their double entendres, and their raw dissection of human moral values. The titles for his work, such as The Enemy’s Enemy is Not the Enemy, demonstrate this exploration of language while his quirky characters display the action.
