The paintings featured in Abundance are based on the artist's daily experiences of observing natural phenomena. These inspired settings shape-shift between petal blooms, migratory bird paths, water, frost and mist among many others. Her subject matter, composition, color and surface luminosity are informed by the wet coastal climate and ecosystem of the Pacific Northwest. Her paintings utilize abstraction and elemental reduction to represent essence and movement, rather than relying solely on observation or pure abstraction.
Eby's lifelong practice of classical piano is also a strong influence in her work, through its compositional rhythms and poetic meter. Her painting’s surface depth is achieved through multiple layers of beeswax, which reveals its elements slowly through obfuscated layers. Eby's work intertwines her divergent interests as a musician, naturalist, abstract painter and materialist, resulting in paintings that have an ethereal quality and mimic chaos through rhythms of a golden mean.
