Winston Wächter Fine Art is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent paintings by Tracy Rocca on view from May 28th through June 27th, 2009. This will be Rocca's first exhibition with the gallery in New York.
Tracy Rocca's abstract compositions are inspired from everyday organic imagery seen through the eyes of the artist at home in New Mexico. Through careful and consistent observation, Rocca contemplates the calmness found in nature. Using digital photography, she is able to capture unfocused colors and forms in the ordinary landscape. Her blurred images are meant to serve as a reminder that calm exists amidst the chaos of everyday life. Tracy states: "The use of instantaneous digital tools in my everyday life makes me want to find a slower, gradual, more contemplative painting process that reasserts the value of the human hand. I work every morning in natural light using traditional painting materials, walnut oils and mongoose brushes, to apply thin glazes of color that I blend and blur into soft transitions with each additional layer. By blurring the details I create a window into an unspecified yet familiar environment. Ultimately a single point of focus or light emerges from within the paintings, creating the enveloping sense of meditative focus that characterizes my compositions."
