Winston Wächter Fine Art is pleased to announce the opening of Susan Dory: Equipoise. This is Dory's second solo show at Winston Wachter Fine Art, New York. Her new work
explores the psychological influence that color, compositional space, and repetition can exude from ones memory.
Susan Dory creates abstract compositions focusing on the repetition of translucent forms, capsulated shapes and bold color. These ideas speak to the individual viewer and encourage recollection of personal memories as well as the passage of time. For Dory, the layering process represents moments in time and creates a visual document of her daily painting while the colors she chooses represent the memories of people, places and particular times in her life. Each painting is a collage of these distinct memories, the sentimental history of one's private life. The touches of potentially dozens of different colors in each canvas encourage the viewer to consider their own personal associations, a process that, like Dory's technique, slowly reveals itself through meditative periods of looking. Dory states: "I am fascinated by the psychology of color and how deeply personal it is. Color is clearly powerful and influential when experienced yet systematically indefinable, immeasurable in the way it is individually perceived" For further information, please contact Amanda Snyder at 212-255-2718.
